Table of Contents(2) - Photo Shoot

This is my second photo shoot with my second model. I took the same process, trying her in different poses and taking many photos. Between all the photos, I liked these four the best. Although, the photos came out very well I can not choose which one I would prefer. Once designing the layout for the table of content, I can choose which position would better suit it.
The only editing that will be done for these photos will be adjusting the lighting and clearing the sky from stray clouds.
Bringing this model into the magazine will hopefully bring diversity in the audience. Usually when a consumer sees someone that looks like themselves in a magazine or any type of media, they are motivated to buy that media. Despite using a model of color for marketing purposes, I want to use the model to have the audience understand that they are beautiful no matter what color skin they have, their body type, or their gender preference.

Table of Contents Page(1) - Photo Shoot

During my photo shoot, I took photos of my models in various poses.

I first started with my male model. I found a location that was simple and didn't have any distractions. I made sure it was a simple background because of the way I am planning to edit it.

For this particular model, these are the three photos I liked more from the photoshoot. Through evaluation, I liked his poses that were in a crouch position more than him standing up.

I will be choosing between the two photos with him in a crouched position. After picking the photo, I need to edit it. My plan would be to have a different background, where it's a simple color. However, I can also just touch up the background in the photo without making any major changes.

Including this model into my magazine, although a minor part, will first show that this is a gender neutral magazine. It will also show that men do not need to follow the typical body stereotype. The magazine is about showing teen boys that they can use products or clothing tips that may be perceived as feminine,  however, it is gender-neutral and can be used by many, even if it does not have a boy on the cover.

Table of Contents Page - Development Planning

Since this is the table of contents page, I will be going for a different type of model as well as a similar location/background. Considering this is the table of contents, there will be many words that must be legible for audiences, meaning that the background must be a simple background. I can always edit the background of the photo so it could be more smoother, however I will also not edit the model because I want to show natural beauty.

Font:
The font will also need to be chosen carefully as well as the size and color. I want it to continue to be in theme as well as have have fonts that fit with the front cover. The must be bold, or at least the page number must be bold as well as the article/heading of that page number. I must use the boldness and colors of the font in order to attract attention, thus having the audience read the magazine.

Models:
For the model themselves, I am considering the shots to take. I can take full body shots, two-thirds body shots, or close-ups. This of course will be figured out once I conduct the photo shoot and will be going to edit the photos. My plan is to choose two models for the table of contents. For my models, I will be choosing from my two previous models(not the one on the front cover). After the photos are taken, I will evaluate each of them to see which of them will better suit as the table of contents based on lighting, pose, and location.

Layout:
Here is an example of a table of contents page.
This table of contents has color but it is also very simple and legible. I think this might be a design that I will like to go for. Where the model will be placed has a colorful background but where the words, or table of contents, are placed with a white background. That way, the words are legible, plus I can add more colors to the fonts.

Front Cover Layout (2)

When adding my taglines, I wanted it to be simple and organized. I didn't want it too be crowded with words. I wanted it to be straight to the point.
Here are the taglines I used

These are the three taglines I input into the magazine. During my research I noticed that the taglines may come in the same font and color, however other used different font styles, colors, characteristics, and many more. Despite that, I wanted to ensure to follow the consistent color scheme and font of the magazine. I am satisfied with the amount of taglines used. They do not cover the model and it does not appear crowded whatsoever. Its clean and simple. I made sure the colors of the fonts and well as their style would keep them from blending into the background, having them stand out. The font chosen is also legible.

And this is my final product.

I personally believe that the final outcome looks like a real magazine. The magazine is organized and with the photo, it all flows and combines very well together. This is the type of magazine I would like to release to an audience. It's simple yet eye-catching. The eyes of an audience goes to the model then the tagline within the circle and overall allows the eyes to flow and wonder around, rather than going all over the place.

Front Cover Layout (1)

Front cover layouts on beauty magazines different depending on what type of audience they want to attract. For my magazine, I would like it to be simple but also a bit fun in order to attract teens of all kind.
To start of, beauty magazines usually have the name of the magazine brand on the top, also known as the masthead.

This is the font and color I chose for the masthead. It stands out from the background color and gives a sophisticated yet fun aesthetic.
This is bubble contains the name of the person for the feature story and has a tagline of what main theme of the feature story will be. I made sure to keep withing the scheme color to show consistency..

This is how the image look like with the masthead and title.

The title is legible and the consistent color scheme makes it look organized. The fonts of the feature story title and the masthead are not the same, yet, the difference in them gives a small bit of variety.

As an addition to the magazine, I ensured to put an issue number as well as the month and year of the magazine.

The next part is adding taglines on the sides of the magazine, which would be advertising the contents within the magazine. The taglines would include different topics that can be inclusive with all genders could be potential audience. These taglines however may be deemed as feminine, however, that is not the case.

Masthead Layout

For the masthead, I decided to try using different fonts from the one I originally sketched out and researched, so can see how they would look and what type of ambiance they would give to an audience. I already decided on a navy blue background for the front cover, therefore the font color must be white or at least a lighter color than navy blue.

This font is called Sifonn Outline. Since the background color is already chosen, the white font color stands out. Since its an outline, the letters are easily legible. However, the font does not give a youthful aura. It's too plain.

This font is called Abys. The font is more artistic and more youthful. It is also legible and has an exciting factor along with it. It can attract attention from potential consumers as well.

This particular font is named Playlist Script. Unlike the other two, its in cursive. Cursive is usually hard to read, yet this font isn't. It has the youthful and creative aura, in addition, it flows with the exclamation point in the end. Looking at the font brings me excitement and pleasant feeling,

Between these samples, I like all of them. They are all legible and they do not blend into the background. All of them stand out but they also have flaws. Out of the three I like the Playlist Script font the most. I feel as though it is different from the usual font which is typically not in cursive. The font also makes more cheerful.

Process of Choosing Final Shot

Photo Shoot Set Up:
For the photo shoot, it was taken outside. There were not light set ups or props used. We used the parks natural set up, with the bleachers, the field, etc. and it worked out perfectly. I used different camera angles until I found the one that would better fit as the magazine cover as well as having my model in different positions.

Chosen Photo:
This was the chosen photo.  I really like the background, it has the sky as well as the some trees and other natural objects that would be found in a park. The model is main focus, and despite being cut off on the right side, all eyes will first be on her. However, there are a few minor distractions in the photo such as the light poles, a bench, and a garbage can. However, once I begin editing for the magazine I can edit using the online app Canva.

Front Cover - Photo Shoot/Final

These are a few shots that I really liked from the practice shots that I tried to mimic or at least closely capture the similar style for the rest of the photo shoot. These photos will also be considered for the front cover as well.
For the front cover photo shoot, I took the time to try the same poses at different angels, using the natural lighting and shadowing to my advantage. I also wanted to see what other outfits can be used to also give a autumn feeling to the magazine.

Photo Shoot Set Up

For my practice photo shoot, I previously decided to take it the photos in the outdoors. Since my magazine is about natural beauty and is an issue based on autumn, I figured the outdoors would better match the aspects.
There were no real set up. I used the location of the park as well as the sunlight to enhance my model.

Front Page - Practicing Shots

I took one of my chosen models to practice with the lighting as well as different types of poses that would work in the magazine. (These are not permanent models that will be used for the final cover photo).
I immediately loved the location. It was clean and very refreshing. I feel as though the angles give a creative touch. At some points, it seems that the model came out to white, however, I like the model chosen for the front page, she is Ecuadorian as well as she doesn't have the stereotypical model body shape. Since the feature story will be about her in the double-spread page, she should be the main cover image. Although, I will find a different way to input diversity into my magazine.
